Sunday MorningsSunday School
Note: For the summer months, the younger and older Sunday School classes will be combined in room 215. Grow your faith by leaps and bounds in our Sunday School classes! Join us on Sundays from 9:45am-10:45am as our caring and energetic Sunday School teachers use the Grow •Proclaim•Serve curriculum to help students explore scripture and build a foundation for their faith that will grow for years. This exciting curriculum uses games, art, puzzles, music, video, and more to help students engage the Biblical story in depth. Students ages 4-1st grade meet in room 215 and students in 2nd-5th grade meet in room 205. Parents can learn more about the curriculum at: http://www.growproclaimserve.com/parents.html Worship Opportunities During our 11am worship service, children are welcome to join us up front for the children’s moment and then head upstairs to the second floor for children’s church. During children’s church we have an opportunity to give an offering, hear the day’s scripture lesson, and participate in games, crafts, drama, and other activities that help us understand the lesson and worship God together. Our lessons follow the same lectionary scripture passages and liturgical calendar as our big worship services; families are encouraged to talk about what they’ve encountered in worship together! Children’s Church also looks at different parts of the worship service to help prepare children for the time when they will stay and join in the big worship service with their families. Adults can pick up their children after worship on the 2nd floor in room 211. Other Opportunities Children age 9 and up are also invited to participate in our worship service as acolytes. Acolytes help at the beginning of worship by bringing in the cross and lighting candles on the altar, help during the service by assisting with the offering and with communion, and help with the end of service by processing out with the cross and the light from the candles. Training occurs once at the beginning of the school year and again in January. Nursery Nursery is provided for children from newborn to age 3 in rooms 111-113. Our caring nursery staff is well trained and is present every Sunday from 9:30am-1pm. Our children’s ministry also includes many special events throughout the year including a quarterly Lunch Bunch, Easter Egg hunt, VBS, fall festival, and more. Please contact our children’s minister, Candace Hirsch. chirsch@ssumc.org for more information. |
