THE PARENTS’ CLUB
The Parents’ Club supports families through communication, teachers through our classroom efforts, and the school through fun family events, fundraising and other programs and committee work throughout the year. We believe volunteering builds a cooperative community and fosters lasting friendships. Parents’ efforts make SSUMC Preschool & Kindergarten the special place that it is!!
We believe that the example parents set by engaging with their children’s school is so positive, we ask each family to sign an agreement that they will volunteer for at least 1 Parents’ Club event and 1 Class Party. There’s something for everyone at SSUMC Preschool & Kindergarten!! Parent participation and presence at the school contributes to the life of school in countless ways!
Parents’ Club Activities and Standing Committees include:
- Parents Night Out
- Breakfast with Santa
- Kids’ Fun Run
- Field Days
- Pizza Days
- Box Tops
- Teacher Appreciation
- Room Parent
Parents can be part of the pre-planning and organization for any of the events we host: Fall Family Fun Night, Book Fair, Breakfast with Santa, and Touch-A-Truck. In general, this may include booking or hiring special guests (Santa, a Petting Zoo, a DJ, etc.); purchasing or soliciting donations for decorations, food, drinks, etc.; coordinating parent donations; promotions and advertising; decorating, set-up or clean-up; registration and tracking ticket sales, etc.
Parents can volunteer to help out the day of the event– checking people in at the door, clearing tables, manning a game, selling raffle tickets, helping with a craft table, etc. Even with large committees, there are rarely enough people to staff the actual event! It takes all of us, at one time or another, to do our part to foster the kind of community we have built here at SSUMC Preschool & Kindergarten.
Parents can also volunteer with the standing committees which work throughout the year. The Teacher Appreciation Committee recognizes teachers & staff with breakfasts, gifts and Teacher Appreciation Week. The Yearbook Committee, which takes photos at events, solicits photos from parents, and creates the Yearbook. Finally, Room Parents are the vital communication link between teachers and families and help to organize class parties and class events.
