What To Expect

We are glad you are interested in worship at Sandy Springs UMC. As we say each week: whoever you are, wherever you find yourself on your faith journey, you are a beloved child of God and you are welcome here. Find more information below, but if you still have questions, reach out to main@ssumc.org

Worship Time and Style

We have one worship service at 11 a.m. You can join us in person in our sanctuary or livestream the service HERE. Our service style is updated traditional. We sing together, hear music by instrumentalists, soloists, and our choir; pray together; read the bible; and hear a sermon that is based in scripture and relevant to our lives today. We celebrate an open table communion on the first Sunday of every month.

Children are welcome in worship! Everyone begins the worship service together in the sanctuary, and then children are invited forward for the children’s moment early in the service, if they choose to participate. After the children’s moment and passing of the peace, children are invited to meet our Director of Family Ministries and a volunteer in the narthex before going to “children’s church” in room 211, where they’ll learn about the same scripture as the adults through age-appropriate activities.

Where we are:

86 Mt Vernon Highway NW, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. We are located on Mt Vernon Hwy between Sandy Springs Circle and Lake Forest Drive. See map below.

Where to Park:

There are visitor parking spots on the right as you enter our parking drive with clearly marked “Visitor Parking” signs. Head for the glass doors and members of our Connect Team will greet you, get you a name tag and a worship guide. We have visitor information bags prepared for you as well.

Accessibility:

For a fully accessible entrance, drive around to the back of the church building, you will be able to enter the building and utilize an elevator to reach the 1st-floor sanctuary for worship.

WHAT TO WEAR:

You will find people in a variety of attire. We care that you are with us, not what you wear. Some will be in jeans; others in suits. Most people wear business casual. If you are watching the live stream, we recommend your pajamas!

Sunday School:

We have Sunday School Options for adults and children before worship. Looking for a class where you can grow in your faith and connect with others? Email kfloyd@ssumc.org to find the best fit.

Children’s Sunday School is open to children in pre-k through 5th grade from 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. each week and typically meets in room 217. Our children learn about Bible stories through different age-appropriate, engaging activities like games, art, storytelling, and more.

Children:

We love children! Jesus said: “Whoever welcomes one of these children in my name welcomes me” —Mark 9:37a

That means children are always welcome in worship! Everyone begins the worship service together in the sanctuary, and then children are invited forward for the children’s moment early in the service if they choose to participate. After the children’s moment and passing of the peace, children are invited to meet our Director of Family Ministries and a volunteer in the narthex before going to “children’s church” in room 211, where they’ll learn about the same scripture as the adults through age-appropriate activities.

Children staying with caregivers for the main service may pick up a blue worship bag from the narthex before the service and return it after the service.

We uphold our Safe Sanctuaries policy; email cjohnson@ssumc.org for a copy of the policy.

Nursery:

Our nursery is open for children from 2 months to 3 years old on Sundays from 9:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. and for many other special services and adult studies. Our caring and background-checked nursery staff will invite you to sign in your child and take a buzzer so that they can notify you if you are needed at any point before you return to pick up your child from the nursery.

What happens after I visit:

We have connect cards you may fill out (in person or online) with your information and we will be in touch. Stop by our visitor welcome area outside the sanctuary to receive a visitor gift, chat with one of our volunteers, and learn more about the church.
